I think nationalism is a great thing. I think it can really help a centralized group focus on itself and achieving the best for its people. Not that countries should not be involved in the external communities like Canada. However, I still believe most countries are more interested in their personal interests, and if that means being perceived as a country that "provides aids and assistance" to other countries. The countries may not do it necessarily because they want to help other countries but because they want to be perceived as a country that helps other country. So Justin Trudeau may not want to attack China for its killing of Muslims, and USA may not want to attack Saudi Arabia (it also depends on who is in power of course) but I think its because generally, external business is a second concern. The first area of focus is the people that elected you, and if getting involved in external business is going to harm the people that elected you and they would not benefit from it, why get involved? Now not that that is the ethical thing to do, but the government of most countries, I would argue, pretty much operate that way.
